Grief and Loss

“Each tear is a poet, a healer, a teacher.”
–Rune Lazuli

Grief shows up in many different ways and at many different times.

A loved one tragically is killed in a car accident.

You were attacked, sexually assaulted, violated. Feelings of profound loss and sadness cause you to feel out of control and hopeless.

Without warning, your family member is gone to suicide.

A routine visit to the doctor becomes a sudden loss as you are made aware of a devastating diagnosis. Your life plan vanishes. Overwhelming anxiety grips your entire being.

Your family is shattered in a moment from the words, “We are getting a divorce.”

When we experience loss through trauma, health, family, or sudden suicide, our heart feels as if it may never beat the same way again.

The doorway to the soul is paved by connection. When we lose someone we love, a part of us feels lost… and that door never seems to open in the way it once did.

There’s not a human out there who’s fully prepared to handle the pain of loss.

Feeling broken and shattered…

When you lose something, intense feelings of heartache and sadness can dominate your entire being.

Struggling to stand, your heart feels empty, and your body goes numb.

Replaying past moments and regrets…

I should have said I love you…

I never got to say goodbye…

I could have done more…

Mending these wounds seem impossible and feel unbearable. With nowhere to turn, despair sets in.

Living with anger and agony…

When your inner world is in a state of constant chaos and your outer world is at a standstill, it leaves you feeling paralyzed… devastated… hopeless.

With each passing day, you struggle to fit this new normal. Going through the motions, you wonder if you’ll ever feel whole again.

In therapy, we’ll create a path forward for you.

Our work together begins by honoring your grief experience.

We’ll begin at nonjudgmental acceptance. You will have the space you need to talk about your grief. For some, this may be a quick process. For others, it may take several sessions. You must allow yourself the time you need to process acceptance and share your grief experience.

There is no timetable for your grief.

There is no grief like your own.

You’ll be able to experience emotions in a safe space.

As you begin to move into your grief experience, challenging emotions surface, and you have a safe space to understand them. Our work together unfolds into each emotional experience with intuitive awareness and insight, helping you understand how your emotions are connected to your grief process.

Every individual grief process is unique. Our work together honors this process by moving gently at your pace and allowing you to experience your pain fully.

As we move forward, you’ll process the pain of your grief.

You begin to harness the power of your emotions and powerfully transform them into strength, learning to love life again with insight gleaned from processing your pain.

Saying goodbye on your terms, writing your goodbye letter, owning your story.

We will explore EMDR and its benefits to reprocessing your grief experience during this part of grief work. We’ll activate the healing powers of your nervous system and begin to lower distress, validate your positive thoughts, and incorporate mind-body awareness. Your heart begins to strengthen this connection.

As your processing continues, your pain begins to transcend into hope, and over time, hope becomes love.

You’ll gain tools for managing the challenging emotions associated with painful loss.

You will learn skills centered on acceptance, memorializing your grief through creating positive memories, tangible mementos, and implementing calming skills to manage painful emotions and anxiety associated with loss.

You will begin to support your grief process as an ongoing journey of growth. Your grief becomes an important part of who you are. Each day, you begin to accept, honor, and love yourself more and more.

Let me walk beside you on your journey to healing.

You’ll set the pace every step of the way. It’s time for you to discover peace and to become whole again.

The hardest lessons come in the greatest forms of love and loss.

Your tears, sadness, and grief have brought you to this moment. Now, they become your greatest strengths.
